PRO EM Gives Back

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

PRO EM Gives Back is an ongoing, employee-run initiative of PRO EM that provides support to the community through available and donated resources.  Committee members raise funds, volunteer time and collect items for organizations such as domestic abuse shelters; centers for the homeless; and a wide variety of efforts that provide opportunities for children to receive education, stability and medical care.

Since its inception in July 2009, PRO EM Gives Back has provided support and donated resources to organizations including the Salvation Army, Children’s First Academy, Chicanos Por La Casa, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the March of Dimes and numerous local families.

To learn more about PRO EM Gives Back and get involved, contact Committee Chair Paul LaDue, 480-507-0999.

Star Spangled Celebrations

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Our favorite independence type holiday will be here before you know it – backyard barbeques, sunburns and fireworks aren’t going to happen on their own – it takes planning.  Line up your rentals early and make sure you have enough cooking utensils, shade and seating by calling PRO EM.

In the Valley of the Sun (but no unorganized fireworks displays) we have so many options for July 4th Celebrations.  We found a nice list at About.com – watch for major venue and community gathering updates soon: http://phoenix.about.com/od/4thofjuly/a/July4th.htm

The 2nd Annual Denver Day of Rock was held over Memorial Day weekend and PRO EM Distinctive Events was there.   Downtown Denver was transformed into an outdoor concert venue for the Concerts For Kids organization, a local non-profit that raises funds and awareness for local children’s charities.  The line-up included Five for Fighting, Fishbone and The Fixx–and that’s only the F’s, people!!–as well as skateboarding demonstrations, interactive booths and activities for the kids, such as facepainting and games.

According to organizers, this year’s event was “a smashing success.”  Plans are underway for next year’s event and the Concerts for Kids group has more exciting events on the horizon: http://www.concertsforkids.org/tp40/page.asp?id=208604

Cinco De Mayo Celebrations

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

People sometimes confuse the Cinco de Mayo (5th of May) holiday with Mexican Independence Day (16th of September).  Mexico established its independence from Spanish Rule in 1810, but had many struggles along the way to maintain freedom.  The May celebration is in honor of the Battle of Puebla, where a small group of Mexican soldiers defeated a much larger, probably snooty French army in 1862. Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of the fortitude of the Mexcian people.

PRO EM is providing support to the Food City/Radio Campesina and downtown Phoenix festivals.  What better way to celebrate than with live music, great food and Chihuahua races?  We found a nice listing of this year’s parties: http://phoenix.about.com/od/events/a/cincodemayo.htm.

Movie Night In the Park – Saturday, May 7

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

The City of Goodyear, Goodyear White Tanks Rotary and The Goddard School for Early Childhood Development have planned a very special evening at Goodyear Ballbark, showing a double feature with “G-Force” and “The Blind Side,” as well as a raffle for a flat screen TV.

The Homeless Youth Challenge will help raise funds and gather food items for the 200 homeless children of the Aqua Fria School District, who rely on their school resources to bathe, do laundry, eat and learn during regular school hours.  The school year will be over soon but the children still need help in the form of food vouchers, housing and assistance through the summer until school resumes in August.

Admission is $2 plus one canned food item (such a bargain!) and families are encouraged to bring chairs, pillows and blankets, and to purchase items from the Park’s Concession stands.  Gates open at 6p.
